School Life

Our day begins with an all-school meeting where students discuss current events, debate the political landscape, and take time to assure that their own ideas for curriculum are considered.

We concentrate on providing a platform for full and careful discussion, providing the children a format to develop their debating and discussion skills in an accepting environment.

The morning is then filled with focused class work in mathematics, literature, and writing. Afternoon welcomes the opportunity for exploratory learning. Whether a chemistry experiment, an ecology study or an art class with a local artist, Mandala focuses on bringing education to life, and life to education.

Some examples of intense blocks of study outside of the core curriculum include:

  • Sketching
  • Novel writing
  • Woodworking
  • Community Government
  • Frogs, Leeches, & Salamanders
  • Astronomy
  • Weather
  • Glacial Geology of East Aurora
  • Gardening
  • Photography
  • Clay: Finding, Studying, Using, Firing
  • Writing/Theory
  • Music Theory
